An opinion poll conducted by the Information and Decision Support Center in the Council of Ministers showed that 59% of citizens prefer to buy the Egyptian product, compared to 11% who prefer to buy the imported one, while 26% did not prefer any of the two alternatives, but indicated that their purchasing behavior depends on the quality of the product and the extent of the product. Its quality and price are the biggest factor when buying.
This came in a survey conducted by the Information Center on the preference of Egyptians to buy local products on a sample of 1037 adult citizens (18 years and over) during the period from 15 to 19 August 2021.
Regarding the quality of Egyptian products, the results showed that 39% of the citizens in the sample see the quality of Egyptian products as good, and 46% consider them acceptable, while the percentage of those who consider them bad is only 3%.
On the reasons for the preference of some citizens in the sample to buy local Egyptian products, the results showed that encouraging the Egyptian industry and improving the Egyptian economy came at the forefront of their reasons by 51%, followed by the fact that their quality is good at 25.5%, in addition to the appropriateness of their prices with their financial capabilities by 24.5%.
Citizens’ preferences in purchasing products differ between the Egyptian and the imported, as each has its own criteria such as quality, price, maintenance, and others.
The survey was keen to know the opinions of the citizens in the sample in terms of their preference for some products produced by Egyptian hands and others imported. The results showed that “furniture” came at the forefront of the products that were asked about, and citizens in the sample preferred to buy Egyptians from them by 89%, while “electronic devices” were At the forefront of the products that were asked about, 44% of citizens prefer buying imported ones, 74.2% prefer buying “Egyptian leather,” 73.7% prefer buying “Egyptian clothes,” especially cotton, and 61.4% prefer buying “Egyptian electrical appliances.” “.
Looking at the citizens who prefer to buy imported products, the results showed that among those who prefer to buy imported electronic devices, the largest percentage of them prefer products from Southeast Asian countries such as China, Japan and South Korea as well as American products, but in a small percentage, and with regard to electrical appliances, they prefer Japanese ones, and clothes They prefer Turkish, as for leather, they prefer Italian and Chinese products.
The survey pointed out that the state’s efforts to develop the Egyptian product and increase its competitiveness with similar imported products were touched by the Egyptians and reflected in the results of the survey, which indicated that 82.3% of them believe that the state attaches great importance to the quality of Egyptian products, and 79% believe that it is interested in marketing them.
As for the citizens’ suggestions to develop the Egyptian product, improving the product, paying attention to its quality, and the raw materials used came at the forefront of these proposals by 36.4%, followed by a big difference in reducing its price to increase its competitiveness with similar foreign products by 12.1%, in addition to paying attention to manpower, training and developing it. by 7%, good marketing of products, and an increase in advertising by 5.8%.
The vast majority of citizens in the sample, 86%, supported reducing the import of foreign products, which in turn would increase the chances of buying Egyptian products.
