In the past few days, social networking sites have circulated pictures of a Jordanian girl named Rawan Dweik who has Down Syndrome and has completed memorizing the Book of God, thus becoming the first memorizer of the Holy Quran from Down syndrome.

Awatef Jaber, the mother of Rawan Dweik, told the Turkish (Anatolia) agency: “I am Rawan’s mother (her father is deceased) and I am proud.”

Rawan, who suffers from a condition that will accompany her throughout her life, does not stop saying, “The Qur’an is my life and my life.”

And the mother adds: “I had 4 daughters and one son, and as a result of my son’s begging as he was alone and he was asking me for a brother, when I thought about that, Rawan came to me. Praise be to God, she is a gift from the Lord of the worlds; To increase my pride and honor.”

“I swore to God that I would teach her to read the Qur’an.”

And she continues: “When I gave birth to her and learned that she suffers from Down syndrome, and like any mother, I felt sad and upset, but I loved her very much, and I swore to God that I would teach her to read the Qur’an, and if my Lord wrote to memorize it, and honored me also by preserving it.”

She explains that “Rawan was very smart, and when she felt her intelligence and intelligence, she began to teach her the shortest of the surahs, and she memorized very quickly, so I enrolled her in school when she was 6 years old, and she excelled in it.”

She added: “She studied to the seventh grade, and our Lord loved her with a sound pronunciation, which helped her to learn, but she refused school after that, and went down at her will.”

And the mother continues: “I was learning the rules of intonation, and I took her with me to the center, and Prime Time Zone with Down syndrome store everything, and I started memorizing 4 pages of Surat Al-Baqarah, and when I recorded it in a center, her teacher told me that she memorized the first part of the surah.”

And about the method of memorizing it, her mother says that “Rawan was memorizing through writing, and she memorized Surat al-Baqarah within a year and a half, and took the full mark, and when she came out of the exam, she prostrated to God a prostration of thanks.”

And she continues, “Rawan, throughout her memorization of Surat Al-Baqarah, dreamed that she was wearing a bride’s dress, and she told me that, and I told her, God willing, my mother will be in heaven, and when I memorized Surat Al-Baqarah, I decided to wear her a bride’s dress on the day of honor, and she fulfilled her dream.”

And she adds that “Rawan continued to memorize the Qur’an (at a regular pace) for 7 years, and she completed it on the 29th of the last Ramadan (2021), and when she memorized one, two or three parts, she was tested in them.”

The mother shows that what distinguishes Rawan most is her intelligence, and what helped her to memorize is her correct pronunciation, and my words are not distinguished from her words, as I pronounce, she utters, and her memorization of the Qur’an is the generosity of God. Crown of dignity”.

And she continues, “I did not delay Rawan in anything, and I gave her everything, and my interest in her was a motive for her.”

She concludes her speech: “What we seek is for Rawan to confirm the memorization of the Qur’an, examine part by part, and take the testimony of the memorizer, which she did not read in front of sheikhs, and God willing, they will adopt it, and this is what I aspire to.”

As for Rawan, with pride, she says: “I read the Qur’an 3 times a day, and all my life I read it and I have memorized it by heart.”

Down syndrome is a genetic mutation as a result of an extra “chromosome” in the cells of the body. It is a phenomenon resulting from chromosomal or gene defects, and causes varying degrees of mental disability and physical imbalances.
