Decisions to convert 155,000 feddans of flood irrigation to modern irrigation, and requests to transfer 54,7,000 feddans

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of the projects being implemented by the Ministry of Irrigation at the republic level, which are part of the state’s plan for sustainable development.
Dr. Mohamed Abdel Ati reviewed the current implementation position of the canals rehabilitation and lining project, which aims to rehabilitate and raise the efficiency of tired canals with a total length of 20 thousand km, and at a cost of 68 billion pounds at the level of the governorates of the Republic.
He said that the rehabilitation of 1,128 km has been completed, and 3,122 km are being implemented, and the procedures for deciding and mooring are underway for a distance of 2598 km, and the project will continue until 2024.
The minister reviewed the current position of implementing modern irrigation projects, explaining that the total target during the fiscal year 2020-2021 is 516,000 feddans through the Ministry of Irrigation, and 504,000 feddans through the Ministry of Agriculture.
He added that ministerial decisions were issued to transfer the headlamps from flood irrigation systems to modern irrigation systems, with a total of 155 thousand feddans, and the requests submitted to convert to modern irrigation amounted to 373 applications for control of 54.7 thousand feddans.
The minister also touched on the position of the project to establish a water system for the Bahr Al-Baqar drain, which is one of the most important projects of the Sinai Peninsula Development Program, and the establishment of integrated agricultural development projects “agricultural, animal and industrial production.”
The project includes the establishment of a water treatment plant for the Bahr Al-Baqar drain, and the project also includes two lifting stations, the implementation of siphons, open drains, and pipes for the passage of the main canals and drains down the path of the new Bahr Al-Baqar drain, and the construction of 3 barges, and the project implementation rates have reached advanced stages.
Abdel Ati presented the South Valley development project in Toshka, explaining that a protocol for the implementation of industrial, dirt, lining and expansion works of canal sectors was signed on “Branch 4” and “Guide 3, 4” to accommodate future expansions, and the implementation rate reached 45%, and the arable areas are being defined until The ministry is determining the path of the infrastructure, and the water supply is being reviewed.
