Sisi: We will not bear the high cost of reclaiming more agricultural land and providing infrastructure

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stressed that the state bears a high cost in order to reclaim more new agricultural lands and provide the necessary infrastructure for this, which requires the need to preserve the already existing agricultural land and not to encroach on it.

Commenting on the speech of Major General Staff of War Ihab El-Far, head of the Engineering Authority of the Armed Forces, during the opening of the Bahr El-Baqar water treatment plant, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said, “The cost of treating the water needed to cultivate about 500,000 feddans in Sinai is about 160 billion pounds, It is a very high cost, so we suffer when we find that there are encroachments on agricultural lands that lead to the loss of a large number of acres.”

The president explained that cultivating 500,000 new feddans in Sinai also needs to establish a network of roads, canals, electricity, modern irrigation systems, and build housing for workers.

He pointed out that there are countries with large areas of arable land ranging from 50 to 100 million acres, but they are not cultivated because of the high cost necessary for this, and therefore we have the right to feel sorry for the encroachment on the already existing lands and water drains, stressing the need not to Allow our present and the future of our children to be wasted as a result of these transgressions.

He pointed out that the cost of the current project to treat the water needed to cultivate 500,000 feddans in Sinai, amounting to about 160 billion pounds, is loans that we obtained from Arab funds with easy interest and convenient payment periods to implement this project, so we must preserve what we have of agricultural lands and waterways.
