The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sudan, Dr. Maryam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi, confirmed that Sudan gives the issue of the second filling of the Renaissance Dam the utmost attention, as it is a national security issue that threatens the lives of the Sudanese on the banks of the Blue Nile.
The Sudanese news agency “SUNA” reported that the Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs met, today, Monday, with President Felix Tshisekedi, President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and President of the African Union, where she conveyed to him an oral message from the Sudanese Prime Minister, Dr. Abdullah Hamdok, and the greetings of the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant-General. Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan.
The Foreign Minister affirmed her country’s keenness on its distinguished relations with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and its confidence in the ability of President Felix Tshisekedi to lead the African Union in the current session, and to deal seriously and responsibly with the Renaissance Dam file and its hosting of negotiations.
She stressed the need to reach a comprehensive and binding legal agreement between the three countries regarding the rules for filling and operating the dam before next June.
For his part, the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the President of the African Union, expressed, during the meeting, his understanding of Sudan’s position and its clear demands, and stressed that it would make every effort to find a solution to the crisis in a way that achieves security and stability in the region.
