In the first move by the lawyers of the former head of the royal court, Basem Awadallah, after the decision to imprison him, lawyer Muhammad Al-Afif, the defendant’s attorney, revealed that he will appeal the decision of the State Security Court in the case to refer the prison decision to the Court of Cassation.

In his press statements, Muhammad Al-Afif indicated that the ruling issued by the State Security Court can be distinguished from the convicted, as a second stage of litigation, within 30 days from the issuance of the decision.

Earlier today, the Jordanian State Security Court sentenced Bassem Awadallah, the first defendant in the case known as the Sedition Case, to 15 years of temporary imprisonment.

And the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported that the court also sentenced the second defendant, Sharif Hassan, to 15 years of temporary imprisonment.

It also sentenced him to one year in prison and a fine of 1,000 dinars for the charge of drug use and possession.

In addition, the court clarified the details of the sedition case, saying that the defendants sought to destabilize the kingdom, and after placing the defendants’ communication devices under surveillance by a decision of the public prosecutor, it was confirmed that the defendants’ incitement against the king was proven, noting that the elements of criminalization in the sedition case were complete and verified.

The Jordanian street was surprised, on the evening of April 3, by the news of the arrest of Hassan bin Zaid, Bassem Ibrahim Awadallah and others for security reasons.

As well as issuing an indictment against them, which included evidence of a link between Prince Hamzah bin Al Hussein and each of Awadallah and Sharif Hassan.

The list indicated that Sharif Hassan had recommended Bassem Awadallah to Prince Hamzah to help them prepare for external support in support of the emir’s position to reach power.

Noting that Awadallah provided advice on a series of tweets that were to be published on the prince’s account.

Imposing house arrest on Prince Hamzah

For its part, the Washington Post published the news of the imposition of house arrest on Prince Hamzah, the former crown prince, on suspicion of his involvement in the case.

Despite the army’s denial of the news of the house arrest, Prince Hamzah announced through a video clip that he was under house arrest.

However, a few days after the incident, a message was issued by Prince Hamzah in which he affirmed that he will remain “in the era of fathers and grandfathers, faithful to their legacy, walking their path, faithful to their path and message and to His Majesty the King, and committed to the constitution of the dear Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and that he will always be for the Jordanian monarch and his crown prince a help and support.”

Then, the King of Jordan, King Abdullah II, announced that the recent crisis in his country was the “most painful”, as the parties to the “sedition” from within and outside the royal family were.

This is in reference to the case of former Crown Prince Hamzah bin Al Hussein, who was recently placed under house arrest, as part of comprehensive investigations into “activities targeting the security of the Kingdom.”
