The Exporters’ General Division of the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce called for exempting Egyptian exports from any duties on products that are exported abroad under the new customs law in its executive regulations.
Ahmed Jaber, head of the Customs Committee at the General Exporters Division, said that according to the executive regulations expected to be approved for the new customs law, the fees imposed on products exported abroad increased, adding about $ 1,000 to the container, and this cost did not exist before and was just a simple and very low fee.
“Jaber” explained to “the stock exchange” that these fees would reduce the competitive advantage of the Egyptian product externally, and all of them would be added to the price of the final product in the global market, stressing the importance of concerted efforts between ministries to support the plan to support and raise exports and raise their competitiveness, and not to place new burdens on exporters.
He stressed the need to exempt exports from any fees so that they would be zero, in order to be compatible with the state’s plan to support Egypt’s exports abroad, and to achieve its plan to raise exports to $ 100 billion annually.
He said: “The Turkish product, for example, is not charged with any fees, and this makes it able to compete in the global market, and exports must be exempted from any fees to help them reduce costs and raise their competitiveness.”
Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance, revealed that April 8 is the deadline for receiving the comments of the business community on the draft executive regulations for the new customs law through the website of the Ministry of Finance and the website of the Customs Authority.
The ministry added that the draft executive regulations clearly clarify the procedures to be followed by employees and dealers with customs. So that the door to diligence is not left open to personal assessments.
The Ministry indicated that the draft executive regulations confirm that no exemptions are stipulated in the other laws in force, indicating that this project included the new customs regulations that include free zones and economic zones of a special nature, without prejudice to any rights, benefits or guarantees assessed for the beneficiaries of these systems in accordance with these regulations.
