Yasmine Kandil, Director of the Office of the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Alexandria, said that the Chamber is participating in the implementation of the initiative of the Textile Sector Development Project “Tex Med Alliance” funded by the European Union with a budget of 2.8 million euros, and which continues to provide its technical and technical assistance to Egyptian companies until August 2022. .
She explained, in a statement issued by the Chamber today, Wednesday, that the initiative is one of the projects of the Joint Cross-Border Cooperation Program for the Mediterranean Basin, which is funded by the European Union with a value of 208 million euros and is implemented at the level of 14 countries with the aim of providing new opportunities for small and medium-sized companies, fashion designers and clothing workshops. Small/medium, as well as promoting the textile and garment industry.
The statement added that the program is the largest cross-border cooperation initiative implemented by the European Union under the European Neighborhood Instrument, with the aim of creating a more competitive, innovative, inclusive and sustainable Mediterranean region.
He pointed out that the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce is the Egyptian partner in implementing the objectives of the Textile Sector Development Project “Tex Med”. The project provides many opportunities for Egyptian companies and factories in the textile and ready-made garments sector in the Egyptian coastal cities, as well as free technical and technical assistance for companies to advance and advance the spinning and weaving industry, thus enhancing innovation and competitiveness and providing access to new markets, as well as expanding the corporate network of trading partners. .
He noted that the German Chamber had recently organized a conference in Alexandria during the period from 27 to 30 last September, during which it included a team of project experts as well as Egyptian companies interested in joining the project to learn about the details of participation in the initiative, ways to benefit from it, and how to help these companies in the advancement of the textile and clothing industry. ready made.
It is worth noting that Minister of International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat had confirmed last May that 23 projects had been implemented in Egypt within the European Union’s cross-border cooperation program for the Mediterranean basin during the period from 2014-2020.
Al-Mashat added that the goal of the program is to promote sustainable regional economic and social development, which may enhance cross-border integration and value the regions of the participating countries, in addition to addressing the common challenges faced by the countries, noting the huge common challenges facing the region due to the high rate of unemployment and the risks of change climate and other challenges.
She emphasized that the projects implemented within the European Union’s Cross-Border Cooperation Program for the Mediterranean respond to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
