Dr. Hala Zayed, Minister of Health and Population, announced the reception of 854 thousand and 400 doses of the emerging corona virus vaccine produced by “AstraZeneca” company, at Cairo International Airport, as part of the “Kovacs” agreement in cooperation with the International Alliance for Serums and Vaccines (GAVI), the World Health Organization and the Organization UNICEF, among the 40 million doses that will be received in succession.
The ministry stated in a statement that the “AstraZeneca” vaccine has received approval for emergency use from the World Health Organization.
She indicated that this shipment will be subjected to analysis in the Egyptian Drug Authority laboratories before completing the vaccination of medical personnel and eligible groups of citizens with chronic diseases and the elderly.
The ministry added that the recipients of the “AstraZeneca” vaccine will receive the second dose 3 months later, after receiving the first dose.
