Gomez attacked the referee for being expelled from the match, before his teammates intervened, but he continued to attack the Uruguayan referee, Ostogic, before leaving the pitch in anger.

And press reports indicated that the recklessness of the Paraguayan national team captain, Gomez, may push the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) to impose a double penalty on him, for insulting the referee of the match after receiving a red card and expelling him from the match, in order to ensure that his behavior is not repeated in other matches. .

Peru qualified for the semi-finals of the Copa America, after defeating Paraguay on penalties, 4-3, after a draw between the two teams by 3 goals for both.
