During the meeting, the Algerian minister and the Egyptian ambassador agreed on the necessity of reactivating the meetings of the joint trade committee between the two countries, as well as activating the meetings of the Egyptian-Algerian Business Council, which will increase the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, and information exchange on investment opportunities and market studies in various fields. The Egyptian ambassador added that Algeria could become Egypt’s gateway to the West African region, as well as Egypt could become Algeria’s gateway to the Asian market.
In the same context, the Algerian Minister of Trade promised to reconsider the negative lists imposed on 536 foreign goods from all countries of the world, given that they may hinder the increase of Egyptian exports in return for Egypt facilitating the entry of Algerian products into the Egyptian market.
The minister indicated that Libya could be a practical example of the commercial partnership between Egypt and Algeria, as Egyptian and Algerian companies seek to enter the Libyan market side by side.
The commercial advisor to the Egyptian Embassy, Dr. Yasser Qarni, explained that despite the negative impact of the Corona pandemic on the Algerian economy and the strategy currently adopted by Algeria to limit imports, Egypt achieved an increase in its non-oil exports to Algeria by 10% during the first half of 2021.
He added that the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Algeria increased by +15.4% to reach a value of 392.7 million dollars, noting that Egypt ranks 15th among the most important exporting countries to Algeria, and 24th most important importing countries.
For his part, Mustafa El Halawani, director of El Sewedy Company in Algeria, noted that the company has a pioneering experience in the localization of the cable industry in Algeria and contributes to increasing Algerian exports abroad and exports to Latin American markets and the United States of America.
