The report quoted the Israeli security services’ assessments that “the two prisoners did not have an organized escape plan, as they repeated the same hiding place during the past two days and did not have much food.”

The arrest of Zakaria al-Zubaidi and Muhammad al-Ardah came hours after the re-arrest of the two prisoners, Mahmoud Ardah and Yaqoub Qadri, bringing the number of prisoners who were re-arrested during the past hours, four out of six who had escaped from Gilboa prison, at dawn last Monday.

Who is Zakaria Zubeidi?

Zakaria Muhammad Abd al-Rahman al-Zubaidi (46 years), born on January 19, 1975, from Jenin refugee camp (north of the occupied West Bank), has been a prisoner since 2019 and has not yet been sentenced.

Zakaria al-Zubaidi was arrested for the first time at the age of 16 during the first Palestinian intifada, and spent 4 years inside the prisons of the occupation, before his release after the Oslo agreement in 1994.

Muhammad Qasim Al-Ardah

Muhammad Qasim Ahmad al-Ardah (39 years), born on 3/9/1982, is from the town of Arraba in Jenin, and has been detained since May 14, 2002, and is sentenced to 3 life imprisonment and 20 years.

Basem al-Ardah, Muhammad’s brother, says that the occupation arrested Muhammad in 2001, and after 18 days he managed to escape from Ofer prison near Ramallah, but after chasing him for months, he was arrested again in Ramallah (central West Bank) on May 14, 2002, on charges Responsibility for killing 3 settlers and wounding 60 others in what is known as Operation Camp 80 in Haifa.

Muhammad – according to his brother Basem – is one of the founders of Saraya al-Quds (the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad movement in Palestine), and he obtained a master’s degree in history two months ago, and he is in prison, and he moved from one prison to another before the situation stabilized about 4 months ago in Gilboa prison who managed to escape.
