Astronomical calculations and the blessed Eid al-Fitr

The “Afaq” Society for Astronomy in Taif, Saudi Arabia, revealed astronomical calculations, that “Tuesday, the day of investigation, as there will be no crescent above the horizon after sunset, given that it sets 12 minutes before the sun, according to the horizon of Makkah Al-Mukarramah.”

She pointed out that “next Wednesday (30 Ramadan 1442 AH in Saudi Arabia), the period of stay of the crescent after sunset is about 39 minutes, and its age is estimated at 21 hours, and its height from the horizon is 7.33 degrees, and its surface is illuminated by 0.6% of the illumination of the full moon.” Pointing out that it is “long enough to see it with the naked eye if the skies are clear.”

Afaq expected that “several days of Ramadan will complete, and Thursday, May 13, 2021, is the first of the month of Shawwal for this year, in most, if not all, Islamic countries.”

Australia could not see the crescent of Shawwal

The Australian authorities announced that the crescent of the month of Shawwal could not be seen on Tuesday evening, indicating that the first day of Eid al-Fitr will be the day after tomorrow, Thursday.

For its part, the European Council for Fatwa and Research confirmed, last week, that the month of Ramadan for this year will be the same as the previous year and will complete 30 days according to astronomical calculations.

In an official statement, the General Secretariat of the European Council indicated that “the date for Eid Al Fitr in Australia 2021 will be Thursday, May 13, 2021.”

Indonesia and Malaysia also officially declared the day after tomorrow, Thursday, May 13, the first day of Eid al-Fitr.
