Minister: We aim to implement the axes “Manfalut – North Luxor” at a cost of 3.5 billion pounds for the current fiscal year
Lieutenant-General Kamel Al-Wazir, Minister of Transport, said that the implementation of the first phase of the Dairout axis on the Nile in Assiut Governorate has ended with a rate of 81.7%.
The first stage extends from the axis from Al-Houta Road in the east to the Western Agricultural Interchange in the west, with a length of 15 km and a width of 21 meters, numbering 2 traffic lanes for each direction, at a total cost of 1.7 billion pounds.
The axis includes 13 industrial works (10 bridges – 2 tunnels – 1 culvert), of which there are (2) main bridges, which are (the bridge over the Nile River – the bridge over the Ibrahimia canal, the Cairo / Aswan railway and the western agricultural road), where the total length of the axis in its stages is 42 km .
The Minister stressed during his tour today that he inspected the project’s work, that all work should be done according to high quality measurements, work around the clock, intensify all work, and fully adhere to the project’s time plan, especially with the importance of the project in contributing to linking the eastern desert road (Cairo – Assiut) with the western agricultural road crossing a river The Nile and the “Cairo – Aswan” railway, south of Dayrut.
He also stressed the need to take all necessary precautions to confront the Corona virus.
The ministry is working on establishing 14 axes at a cost of EGP 18.5 billion in Upper Egypt to link the road network east and west of the Nile and facilitate the movement of citizens.
Where 7 axes were established, namely (Tama – Gerga – Bani Mazar – Adly Mansour – Samalout – Qus – Kalabsha)
The Minister of Transport indicated that the axes of Adli Mansour, Samalout, Qus and Kalabsha are ready for the official opening
And 5 axes are being implemented, namely (Dayrut – Aswan Reservoir – Daraw – Al Fashn – Abu Tig).
He added that it was planned to implement 2 axes at a cost of 3.5 billion pounds, namely (Manfalut – North Luxor), starting from the plan for the next fiscal year 2021/2022.
The minister pointed out that before 2014, the inter-distance between the axes of the Nile was 100 km, and thanks to the new axes, they were reduced to 25 km.
