The Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Accord in Libya announced, in a statement, that its Minister, Fathi Bashagha, had been subjected to an assassination attempt. He escaped, and one of the attackers was killed.

Many activists pointed out the accusation against the rebel general, Khalifa Haftar, who is supported by the United Arab Emirates, stressing that only his militias commit such terrorist acts.
For his part, “Al-Wasat Gate” website quoted the advisor to the Ministry of Health, Amin Al-Hashemi, as saying that Bashagha was subjected to a “failed assassination attempt on the highway towards Janzour.
An armored car directed a barrage of bullets, wounding one of the minister’s bodyguards.
Stressing, “The car was chased, two Prime Time Zone were arrested, and the third was killed.”
Al-Hashemi added that Bashaga is “fine and has not suffered any injury.”
Informed sources also reported that the headquarters of the Ministry of Interior of Al-Wefaq in Tripoli is currently witnessing tightening security measures and a state of tension.

The same sources reported that a helicopter of the Ministry of the Interior flew over the sanatorium area in Janzour.
Meanwhile, reinforcements of the Ministry’s forces loyal to Bashagha arrived, and learned that roads were being cut in the vicinity of the area.
It is noteworthy that the Bashagha usually moves, with a huge convoy of armored cars.
The US embassy condemns the assassination attempt on Bagasha
The US ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, expressed the anger of the United States over the attempt to assassinate the Interior Minister in the Libyan Government of National Accord, Fathi Bashagha.
In a statement, Norland affirmed the US support for efforts to end the influence of the Libyan militias.
The US ambassador to Libya called for the need to conduct a speedy investigation and prosecute those responsible for what happened.
Norland expressed his sympathy to a member of the delegation accompanying Bashagha, who was injured during the operation.
Who is Fathy Bagasha?
Fathi Ali Abd al-Salam Bashagha, born in 1962 in Misrata, is the Libyan Interior Minister and the Commissioner in the Government of National Accord. And a member of the Presidential Council in Tripoli.
Bagasha was nominated for the post of Minister of Interior on October 7 of 2018.
This was after the President of the Presidency Council of the Government of National Accord, Fayez Al-Sarraj, issued a decision assigning Fathi Bashagha the duties of the Minister of Interior. In the Government of National Accord, succeeding Brigadier General Abdul Salam Ashour, according to Resolution No. (1371) of 2018.
Fathi Ali Abdel Salam Bashagha was born on August 20, 1962 in the city of Misurata, Libya.
After completing high school, he graduated from the Air Force College with the rank of Second Lieutenant, Fighter Pilot. And he was selected among 5 officers to continue training students after passing the training course.
He remained there until he resigned from the Air Force in 1993 and moved to the import trade and worked in this field.
After the Libyan revolution of 2011, the Judicial Committee was formed, which is the committee that summoned working and resigning officers to form a committee. Military and was a member of the military council of Misurata.
In 2011, he joined the military council as head of the information and coordinates department, then as spokesman for the Misurata Military Council.
Bagasha then joined the advisory committee of the National Reconciliation Authority.
He also served as a member of the Misurata Shura Council in 2012.
Bashagha is a supporter of and participated in the Libya Dawn operations. In 2013 he ran for Minister of Defense.
Fathi was also elected to the House of Representatives for the city of Misurata in 2014. Then he decided to boycott the House of Representatives within a group of Misurata deputies.
In 2015, he was nominated to head the National Defense and Security Council in the Government of National Accord and apologized for accepting the position.
In 2016, he participated in the Political Dialogue Committee for the House of Representatives. In October 2018, the Government of National Accord decided to assign him the duties of the Minister of Interior.
On August 28, 2020, Bashagha was suspended from work as Minister of the Interior amid protests in Tripoli.
He was then returned after an administrative investigation related to the shooting at demonstrations that took place in the capital, Tripoli, some time ago.
