Jordan’s King Abdullah II revealed the details of his meeting with US Vice President Joe Biden, Camilla Harris, on the sidelines of his visit to the United States and his meeting with the US President and a number of US officials.

The Jordanian monarch said, in Tweet Watan monitored it: “I was pleased to meet Vice President Harris today, to discuss how to develop the strategic partnership between our two countries.”

King Abdullah added, “We continue to work with the United States to promote prosperity and stability in our region and the world. I thank her for her support and friendship.”

King Abdullah addressed Biden, saying: “Thank you for your kindness, which you showed me as usual, and also it was an honor and a pleasure to meet you, as you said that you had the honor of knowing you with my father a decade ago.”

He added, “It gives me great pleasure to see you in this position, and I thank you for your generosity that you offer me and my country.”

And he continued, “As I said, you provided us with some vaccinations, on behalf of Jordan and the Jordanians. I thank you very much for your leadership, not only in your support for our country, but in the fight against Covid-19 in the world, you were the role model.”

And the Jordanian monarch continued: “We were together as strong partners, and as you mentioned, there are great challenges ahead of us, and I think that I and many leaders around the world will work to lift the heavy burden, and this is what we have to do with the United States.”

Biden vows

US President Joe Biden pledged, during his reception at the White House, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, to “strengthen bilateral cooperation” between the two countries, thanking his guest for his “vital” role in the region.

In the first visit of an Arab leader to the White House since Biden took office on January 20, the US president said, with his guest at his right in the Oval Office: “We will continue to strengthen our bilateral cooperation.”

Biden described the Jordanian monarch as a “dear and loyal friend,” addressing him to reporters, saying to him: “Thank you for the vital role you play in the Middle East. You live in a difficult region.”

Biden also thanked King Abdullah II for his “enduring and strategic relationship” with the United States over the years, and said, “You have always been on our side, and you will always find us at Jordan’s side.”

Broadening the horizons of partnership

The official Jordanian news agency, “Petra”, stated that “the summit dealt with expanding the horizons of strategic partnership between Jordan and the United States, in addition to regional and international developments, whose agenda topped the Palestinian issue.”

She explained that “the discussions dealt with developments in the region, especially the situation in Jerusalem, where His Majesty stressed the need to preserve the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem, especially in the Temple Mount, pointing to Jordan’s continued performance of its historical and religious role in protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites in the city.” the holy sites, from the point of view of the Hashemite guardianship of these holy sites.”

She added: “The King stressed the need to work to relaunch serious and effective negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis, to achieve a just and comprehensive peace on the basis of the two-state solution, stressing the need for the Palestinian Prime Time Zone to obtain their legitimate rights, and to establish their independent, sovereign and viable state, on the lines of June 4, in 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

And she continued, “The king praised the positive steps of the US administration regarding the Palestinian issue, and the resumption of US aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), by making additional donations of $136 million, bringing the value of US donations to the agency this year to $318 million.”
