Deputies were in favor of maintaining the ordinance which increased the limit of ammunition that can be purchased by Brazilians with registered firearms from 200 to 500
The Public Security Commission of the Chamber of Deputies rejected a project that seeks to overturn the government’s federal government which increased from 200 to 500 the limit of ammunition that can be purchased by anyone who has fire gun registered. The rule was issued in April last year, but ended up being suspended in court. The committee members approved the opinion of Deputy Deputy Antônio Furtado, contrary to the project presented by Marcelo Freixo. According to the rapporteur, “the government’s ordinance represents the fulfillment of the Executive Power’s commitment to the desires of Brazilian society”. “Public security, in addition to being the duty of the State, it should be stressed, is everyone’s right and responsibility. This gives each citizen the right to guarantee their own security. There, good men and women have the right, if they want to, to carry a firearm for their protection, for their loved ones and even for third parties, ”he said. When presenting the project, the federal deputy Marcelo Freixo he argued that “the government has never justified the real need for such a large increase in the number of ammunition that can be purchased by Brazilians”. Even with the decision, the proposal will still be analyzed by the Foreign Relations, National Defense and Constitution and Justice commissions.
