In the United States, influencers from TikTok will be able to join one of the largest unions in the country, being covered by health and retirement benefits.
Nowadays, there are more and more influencers scattered over the internet. Some of them even have hundreds of thousands of followers on social networks. After Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, TikTok is the new trend for these digital influencers.
Nos Estados Unidos, o National Board of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federal of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), one of the largest unions in the country, announced that content creators on social networks will be able to become members.
“The council approved an agreement to cover content created by certain types of influencers when they are paid to advertise products or services,” reads the statement posted on the union’s website.
“Facilitate coverage of this type of work has been one of the top priorities of our organization. I want to commend the efforts of our team in creating an agreement that will benefit current members of SAG-AFTRA, in addition to allowing all creators the opportunity to join the union. As new ways of storytelling emerge, it is imperative that we embrace and raise these artists ”, these are the presidents of SAG-AFTRA, Gabrielle Carteris.
Thus, those who become members of SAG-AFTRA start receiving health and retirement benefits, writes VICE. The trade union account represents about 160 thousand artists and workers from media.
Even so, there is still no mandatory minimum payment, and fees will still be negotiated independently between the influencer and the advertiser.
Anyone who has a signed contract with an advertiser for a branded content agreement can benefit from the SAG-AFTRA influencer agreement.
