Vakho Sanaia, the host of the Formula TV show “Politmeter”, was attacked by three people on Tskneti Street in Tbilisi, when the journalist was with his wife, young child and relatives.
Sanaia said the attack was clearly linked to his journalistic activities. Three drunken persons recognized him in the face, first started challenging and provoking the journalist, and finally started swearing and beating him.
All this is a direct response from the authorities to the critical media of aggression, their mercenaries, trolls, bot aggression and hatred, which they sow every day.
“When they hit me in the face, someone came and removed the black scarf from my face, told me to remember my face well and started threatening me, then started swearing. Swearing was heard in the address of the televisions, against “Formula”, “TV Pirveli”, finally all three of them were physically corrected.
I have injuries on my head, arms and legs. At that moment, my wife and daughter-in-law got out of the car. My fiancée also has injuries, even she has been hit by a woman. I think this is exactly the reflection of what they are propagandizing towards the TV channels, the critical channels, ”Vakho Sanaia explains.
The journalist says everything could have ended very badly had it not been for the emergency management staff on the ground. They were helping the TV host and his family members to move their car on the icy street, but in the middle of the attack they stood in the middle and defended Vakho Sanaia.
“It was a rude, lazy behavior, they saw that I was with my wife and small child, who was crying hysterically, I was with women, our car crashed on the icy road, I was in trouble and they still continued the violence.
“All this is a direct call from the authorities to the critical media of aggression, the means of their mercenaries, trolls, aggression and hatred, which they sow every day,” said Vakho Sanaia.
Georgian Dream leaders Archil Talakvadze responded to the attack on the journalist. The Speaker of the Parliament wrote on the social network in particular:
We condemn the violence against journalist Vakho Sanaia. Timely and effective response to this incident should be a clear message to those who see a way out of violence.
