A man died during a clash between protesters and security forces last Monday in a neighborhood on the outskirts of Havana, reported the state-owned “Agência Cubana de Notícias” (ACN) on Tuesday, 14. The victim was 36 years old and participated in a protest at the Güinera Popular Council in the municipality of Arroyo Naranjo, in the south of the capital, as part of the anti-government demonstrations that began in various locations across the country on Sunday. Several people were detained and others were injured, including security forces agents, in the clash in La Güinera, according to the agency. The protest in this neighborhood, one of the most deprived areas of Havana, was reported in several videos on social networks, although the government has kept the internet connection cut since Sunday. In the images it is possible to see dozens of people advancing through the streets with shouts of “freedom” and “the united people will never be defeated”. According to the “ACN” version, the protesters “changed the order and tried to go to the National Revolutionary Police Station in the territory with the aim of attacking troops and damaging the facility.”
