Former Justice Minister was appointed by President Jair Bolsonaro to replace Marco Aurélio Mello in the STF
the senator Marcos do Val (May) believe that the former justice minister André Mendonça must obtain favorable votes to occupy a position in the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Appointed by the President Jair Bolsonaro to replace Marco Aurélio Mello at the Court, Mendonça will go through a hearing at the Constitution and Justice Committee in the Federal Senate, where he can have his nomination approved or rejected by parliamentarians. For Marcos do Val, the Union’s attorney general has been “working wisely” to end possible resistance among senators. “He is a very simple person, approachable, humble, extremely religious. He’s a pastor. When we meet someone who is extremely religious, she usually ends up inserting something biblical in every line, but he is not like that. He is a very calm person, knowledgeable about Justice, considered, balanced. I feel that he is managing to break the resistance and I think it is very possible that he has a vote in favor of his nomination”, said the congressman in an interview with Jornal da Manhã, from Young pan.
The senator believes that the hearing in Mendonça will feature three survey profiles, directed according to the interest of the parliamentarians. “Profile from the right and far right, who wants to have someone extremely religious. There will be someone who will excel in technical and legal matters and there will be someone who wants to stop the processes they have in the STF. […] As I don’t have a process in the STF and I hope I never have it in my political life, I’m going to focus on technical issues from when he was Minister of Justice,” he said, recalling that André Mendonça joined the government after the departure of the “superminister” Sergio Moro. For Marcos do Val, during his tenure in the ministry, the nominee managed to demonstrate good results. “He is a very dear person. Everyone who sits down to talk to him perceives an air of great peace and tranquility and that’s what we want today. This is the profile I hear on the streets and that I think it has to be: technical, balanced and thoughtful”, said the senator, who said he was unaware of the possibility of Rodrigo Pacheco, president of the Senate, be an alternative if the name of Mendonça is not approved.
