Delegate Paulo Gustavo Maiurino will replace Rolando de Souza, who had been in office since May last year
The newly inaugurated Minister of Justice and Public Security, Anderson Torres, announced, this Tuesday afternoon, the name of the new director-general of the Federal Police (PF), third to hold the post since the beginning of the government of the President Jair Bolsonaro. Delegate Paulo Gustavo Maiurino will replace Rolando Souza, who was in command of the corporation since May last year. “I am grateful to Dr. Rolando Souza for the period he was in charge of the Directorate-General of the Federal Police. Today we begin the process of transition from office to Dr. Paulo Maiurino, whom I wish him well in this important role in the Ministry of Justice ”, wrote the minister on his Twitter profile.
The last change in the directorate-general of the Federal Police generated a crisis in the Bolsonaro government, which resulted in the resignation of former federal judge Sergio Moro, in April 2020. At the time, Moro stated that the President of the Republic had tried to interfere politically in the PF when trying to dismiss the then general director, Maurício Valeixo. After Valeixo’s resignation, Bolsonaro appointed Alexandre Ramagem to the position – the appointment, however, was barred by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
