Today, the state has 2,469,849 confirmed cases of coronavirus and 74,652 deaths from the disease
The government of State of Sao Paulo stated that the number of people with Covid-19 admitted to the ICU today is 107.6% higher than the number registered at the peak of the pandemic in July 2020. This Wednesday, 31, there are 12,975 patients who need intensive care in the state. At Covid-19 peak last year, that number totaled 6,250 people. In the last week, the pandemic was increased by 9.2% in cases, 10% in hospitalizations and 25.6% in deaths.
The state secretary of health, Jean Gorinchteyn, said, however, that despite the high levels, it is possible to notice a slight deceleration in the disease curve. O Today, the State of São Paulo has 2,469,849 confirmed cases from Covid-19 and 74,652 deaths by the disease. The occupancy rate of ICU beds is 92.2% in the State and 91.8% in Greater São Paulo. As for the number of hospitalized patients, 12,975 are in the ICU and 18,216 in the ward – between confirmed and suspected cases.
In an attempt to contain the high numbers of the pandemic, the State announced the purchase of two thousand oxygen cylinders with support from the private sector. The cylinders will be distributed in regions without oxygen plants, but which need the input to attend moderate and severe cases of the disease. A thousand concentrators were also purchased to support less severely ill patients.
Still intending to lower the numbers, the Hospital das Clínicas of São Paulo will open another 163 new beds for the care of patients with Covid-19. There will be 58 ICU and 75 nursing units. With that, the HC reaches 628 exclusive beds to attend to severe cases of the disease. The entire team was financed with a donation of R $ 5.4 million from the private sector – a collective effort by Banco BTG, Eurofarma, Cosan and EDP.
