Amazon whistleblowers warn that the data of millions of people is at risk due to the company’s lack of concern for cybersecurity.
Apart from Google, Apple, Microsoft and Facebook, a Amazon is one of the largest technology companies in the world. However, the American company’s efforts to protect the information it collects from its users is inadequate, warn whistleblowers from the company.
According to some Amazon employees, the company’s security breaches expose users’ information to possible escapes, thefts and exploitation, writes POLITICO. From credit card information to private health data, nothing is free of any information leaks, both in the European Union and in the United States.
Officials who reported the problem to POLITICO tried to alert their superiors, but say they were marginalized or dismissed from the company, in what they argue is professional retaliation.
Whistleblowers claim that Amazon has a corporate culture that prioritizes growth over other factors, such as the security of customer data, compliance with rules designed to protect that information, and the careers of employees hired to signal these kinds of problems.
“Imagine if a company the size of Amazon had an escape? The problem is that the personally identifiable information of millions of people is at risk ”, said one of the former information security officials in the United States.
In response, an Amazon spokesman assured that this is a “top priority company ”.
“These inaccurate, unproven and outdated claims do not reflect our commitment to keeping personal information secure. Amazon has long-standing, comprehensive security and privacy policies, procedures and technologies. We regularly audit our services to ensure compliance and we have zero tolerance for employees who do not follow our policies, ”said the spokesperson for the technology lender.
