A Federal police (PF) fulfilled an arrest warrant on Friday morning, 19, during Operation Deepwater, which investigates the biggest data leak in the country. According to the PF, the countless sensitive data of individuals and legal entities were illegally made available in January 2021 on an internet forum specialized in exchanging information on cyber activities. Information was released about 223 million Brazilians, including dead people. Among the data, CPF, CNPJ, full name and address were disclosed. After representation made by the PF requesting measures, the Minister of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) Alexandre de Moraes issued court orders.

“The disclosure of part of the confidential data was made free of charge by a user of the said forum who, at the same time, exposed for sale the rest of the confidential information that could be acquired through payment in cryptocurrencies”, explains the note. The PF identified the suspect for the practice of the crimes of obtaining, disseminating and commercializing the data. This morning, five search and seizure warrants and one preventive arrest warrant were carried out in the municipalities of Petrolina, in Pernambuco, and Uberlândia, in Minas Gerais. The PF also identified a second hacker who would be selling the data through his social networks.
