President of the association says that 7,000 basic food baskets will be delivered in São Paulo until next week: ‘Then, we will start sending to other states that are also in need’
The Campaign Young pan in partnership with Brazil Institute 200 exceeded the R $ 1 million mark for food donation in nine days of the campaign. The distribution of basic food baskets, each worth R $ 50, is made with the help of three NGOs: G10 Favelas, which brings together about 300 communities across the country; Pequeno Mestre, which serves more than 1,300 families in the Capão Redondo, south zone of São Paulo; and the social institution Patris, which welcomes children and adolescents during school hours. “This was only possible thanks to everyone who contributed. We want to thank everyone who entered the site and made a donation, of any value. We were able to serve these people who are in great need at this critical moment in the pandemic, ”said Gabriel Kanner, president of the Brasil 200 Institute.
Last Saturday, 17, 700 basic food baskets were donated in Jardim Rosana, Capão Redondo region. “Until next week, we will reach 7 thousand baskets distributed here in Sao Paulo. Then, we will start sending to other states that are also in need. We hope that, in the coming months, with the acceleration of vaccination, [o país] has a rapid drop in the death toll and can return to normal. But it is really very difficult now, there are a lot of people without working. Without a doubt, these basic food baskets will make a big difference in the lives of all families ”, pointed out Kanner. According to the IBGE, Brazil had 13 million Brazilians below the poverty line in 2019. A projection of the Getúlio Vargas Foundation estimates that the number more than doubled due to the coronavirus crisis.
