The alliance of organizations and parties that support the Venezuelan opposition leader, Juan Guaidó, announced changes to make the coalition more “broad, inclusive, effective”, guarantee the call for free elections and defeat “the dictatorship” of President Nicolás Maduro.
“We agree on covenant reconfiguration political parties, both in leadership and in decision-making to make it more useful, broad, inclusive, effective, assertive and operational ”, according to a statement, released Tuesday by the agency Lusa, of the movement that supports Guaidó.
In the text, the alliance explained that it had taken this decision “urged by the need to improve and strengthen” the “articulation between political parties”. The signatories also added that they will give priority to measures to combat covid-19 and to call presidential, legislative, regional and municipal elections in a “free and fair” way.
On the other hand, they assured that they will make new efforts to convene and include all the parties that wish to be part of the alliance, “guaranteeing the greatest possible amplitude in the process of political deliberation and discussion ”.
The announcement comes in election year, when regional elections are planned.
The Venezuelan opposition has tried to reorganize itself several times in recent years to guarantee a large coalition, like that of 2015, when it formed the Bureau of Democratic Unity.
