Investigation that seeks to discover those responsible for the murder will return to the command of the prosecutor responsible for the complaint offered against the perpetrators of the crime, Ronnie Lessa and Élcio de Queiroz
The Attorney General of Justice, Luciano Mattos, announced this Thursday, 4, that the Public Ministry of the State of Rio de Janeiro (MPRJ) created a task force to continue investigations into the councilwoman’s murders Marielle Franco and its driver, Anderson Gomes. Prosecutor Simone Sibilio will coordinate the work, assisted by prosecutor Letícia Emile and her team. The PSOL councilor and her driver were killed on March 14, 2018 in an ambush in the central region of Rio. Three years after the attack, investigators have not yet identified who ordered the crime.
With the resolution published on Thursday, investigations seeking to identify those responsible for the murders return to the command of Simone, who acted from the first phase and was responsible for the complaint offered in March 2019 against the perpetrators of the crime, Ronnie Lessa and Élcio de Queiroz. “This case has always been a priority for the Public Ministry. And it will continue to be, which is why we accept the invitation to return for this investigation, in the certainty that the entire structure will be offered for the elucidation of the case to happen. I would like to emphasize my total commitment to society and to the victims’ relatives in the commitment and dedication to this case ”, said the prosecutor.
Simone also acted in several investigative acts to verify the identification of those responsible for the crime. Among the actions he has followed are questions from more than two hundred witnesses, handling of several judicially authorized precautionary measures, confrontations, searches and apprehensions and technical expertise. The MP-RJ also announced today that it decided to end the activities of Gaecc (Specialized Action Group to Combat Corruption), responsible for investigating the alleged corruption scheme involving the senator Flávio Bolsonaro (Republicans-RJ). Mattos de Souza passed on Gaecc’s duties to Gaeco.
