Currently, 67.9% of the ICU beds for patients with Covid-19 in the state are occupied; epidemiological week numbers are 5.6% higher than in the last period
The Secretary of Health of São Paulo, Jean Gorinchteyn, said on Monday, 22, that the state currently has the highest occupancy rate in ICU beds since the beginning of pandemic. Until the morning of this Monday, 6,288 patients occupied beds across the state, registering 67.9% of capacity. The highest number recorded so far was in the month of July 2020, at the height of the first wave. “We were there in July 2020, in that first wave, in the largest occupancy of beds in intensive care units, reaching 6,257. Therefore, we exceeded the cash of the history of the pandemic in our country, making the attention even greater, mainly due to the greater contact that we have observed, especially in some regions of the state ”, he said.
The secretary also pointed out that the epidemiological week indexes show relative worsening. “This week, the health number deserves more attention than the last few weeks. The comparison between the sixth and seventh epidemiological weeks revealed an increase of 5.6% in the number of hospitalizations. We always reinforce that the number of hospitalizations shows how much there is an intense circulation of the virus in that region, this impacting the number of sick and seriously ill people ”, said the secretary. According to data from the vaccinometer made available by the state government, more than 2 million doses have been applied throughout the federal unit to date. Of these, 1,642,810 were first doses. “In absolute numbers, Brazil is the state that most vaccines. If we were a country, we would be in ninth place in all the countries that have vaccinated so far ”, said the Disease Control coordinator of the Secretariat of Health, Regiane de Paula.
Cities that most vaccinated
The state government also reported immunization rates according to the state’s cities. São Caetano do Sul, in ABC Paulista, is the municipality with the highest percentage of the vaccinated population. The data released show municipalities with a population of more than 100 thousand inhabitants and show that 9.6% of the residents of the city of 161 thousand people received at least the first dose of the immunizer. The number is almost three times higher than the state average of 3.65%. In addition to São Caetano, the cities with the highest immunization in proportion to the number of residents are Santos (7.4%); Botucatu (7.3%); Catanduva (7.1%); Barretos (7.0%); Araraquara (6.2%); Presidente Prudente (6.1%); Bauru (6.1%); Marília (6.1%) and São José do Rio Preto (6.0%).
The figures released by the government are updated by city halls, which are directly responsible for immunization logistics. The Coordinator of Disease Control of the Health Department recalled the need for constant submission of reports for better state assessment. “When we have this record and vaccination, we can look at these 10 municipalities in the state of São Paulo with more people vaccinated in proportion to their population,” he said. One of the cities in the top 10 for immunization, Araraquara started this Monday the total lockdown to try to contain the spread of the new Amazonian variant of Covid-19. The city suffers from a shortage of beds and fears a lack of oxygen for patients.
