All students in the public and private network of the State of São Paulo should come back obligatorily to face-to-face classes from next Monday, 18. Currently, the presence of students in classrooms is optional. The official announcement will take place this Wednesday, 13, during a press conference by the government of São Paulo. The Secretary of the State of Education, Rossieli Soares, will be present to disclose more details about the return. According to the newspaper “The State of São Paulo”, only children and teenagers who present a medical certificate preventing them from attending classes will be allowed to stay at home.

Classroom classes were resumed in the state in February 2021 with 35% of total capacity. In March, with an exponential increase in cases and deaths by Covid-19, the emergency phase was decreed and classroom classes were again suspended. Schools were only open to offer lunches and distribution of materials. The face-to-face school activities were resumed in April, with limited capacity and optional presence. Since then, schools have not ceased to be authorized to function by the state government. In August, educational institutions were able to receive 100% of the students, as long as the distance measures between students, professors and employees were maintained.
