In addition to Brazilian flights, passengers from South Africa were also banned from disembarking in the European country; measure will take effect this Wednesday, 3

Paulo Pinto / Public PhotosSpain established restriction on Brazilian flights

Spain announced on Tuesday, 2, the restriction of flights from Brazil and South Africa with the justification of containing the variant of the coronavirus found in both countries. The measure imposed by the government will take effect from 9 am local time (5 am Brasília time) this Wednesday, 2nd, and will extend, in principle, until February 17, and may be extended. Brazilian travelers will not be able to disembark in the country, but will be able to stop at the airport for other flights on the condition that it does not last more than 24 hours.

The measure was accepted after the Madrid Health Council spent weeks telling Spanish authorities about the need to suspend flights from the country. According to documents from the Spanish capital, at least four positive results from Brazilian travelers who landed at the local airport were found by the authorities. Everyone is fulfilling isolation in a hotel. Spain joins a number of countries that have banned the entry of Brazilian travelers to contain the disease. Since the Amazon variant of Covid-19 was found in travelers who arrived in Japan in early January, countries such as Italy, Turkey, France, Germany and the United Kingdom have barred or established rules for the arrival of Brazilians. To date, Brazil has 225,000 confirmed deaths from the disease.
