Number of deaths caused by the disease in the last 24 hours is the highest since the beginning of the new coronavirus pandemic
O State of Sao Paulo registered this Tuesday, the 30th, the highest number of daily deaths per Covid-19 since the beginning of new coronavirus pandemic. In the last 24 hours alone, 1,209 people lost their lives because of the disease and 21,360 new infections were reported. Until then, the highest number of deaths in a single day had been 1,193 last Friday, the 27th. This is the fourth time that the state has exceeded one thousand deaths registered in 24 hours, with the moving average being 696, a 65% increase over two weeks ago. As of Monday, 29, there were 31,041 people hospitalized across the state, with 18,095 patients in the ward and 12,946 patients in intensive care units. Thus, the occupancy rate of ICU beds is 92.3% in the State and 92.6% in Greater São Paulo.
Like most of the Brazilian territory, São Paulo is facing the worst moment of the pandemic. To curb the overload of hospitals and also curb the increase in new cases and deaths from the coronavirus, the governor João Doria (PSDB) decided to extend the Emergency Phase of the São Paulo Plan until April 11, with the maintenance of the stricter restrictions. The state has totaled 73,492 deaths and 2,446,680 cases of Covid-19 since the outbreak began in Brazil. Among those recovered are 2,106,294 people, 245,595 of whom were hospitalized and discharged.
