According to General Kenneth McKenzie, “the withdrawal of this Monday means not only the end of the evacuation operation, but also the end of the nearly 20-year mission that began shortly after September 11, 2001.” In all, more than 120,000 people, including US citizens, diplomats and Afghan citizens who collaborated with the US mission were evacuated. Since August 14, there have been around 79,000 evacuations.
