Andorra is a small independent principality located between France and Spain in the Pyrenees mountains. The country is known for its ski resorts and the status tax haven, but now it has attracted foreigners for another reason. The principality has recently become a popular destination among social media influencers.
“It’s like YouTubers’ Silicon Valley – everyone is here, ”says Victor Domínguez, host of the Wall Street Wolverine channel on YouTube, speaking to Bloomberg.
Victor Dominguez moved to Andorra last year, in an attempt to escape the covid-19 pandemic and because it is easier to produce content when there is “another YouTuber five minutes away”.
Although he did not mention it, one of the main reasons why this young man chose Andorra is the very low taxes: maximum 10%, a big difference compared to 54% tax in Spain.
Famous Spanish YouTubers, like aLexBY11, Willyrex, Vegetta, The Grefg, Lolito and Staxx, have already made the leap to the principality, writes the New York Post.
“People you know can have a very normal life in Andorra. They can go shopping, do any activity sto be the focus of the media or any social pressure, ”Andorra’s Economy Minister Jordi Gallardo told Bloomberg.
Pau Auge, a local tax attorney, said that when it comes to registering a business, business owners can put “YouTube” as the company’s purpose since 2019.
The phenomenon of the arrival of YouTubers in the principality is not exclusive to Spain. Influencers of France and the Netherlands they are already beginning to reach the microstate.
Across the Atlantic, in the United States, influencers do TikTok they will be able to join one of the largest unions in the country, being covered by health and retirement benefits.
