On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that Thomas Barak, a billionaire friend of Donald Trump, who headed the former president’s inauguration fund, had been arrested on charges of illegal foreign lobbying and obstruction of justice.
Barak is accused of illegally advancing the interests of the United Arab Emirates in the United States. In addition, he allegedly lied during an interview with agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation when talking about his business relationship with the United Arab Emirates.
Barak, 74, has long been an ally of Trump and the founder of Colon Capital, a large private equity firm. In 2020, Barak resigned as CEO of the company. In April, he also resigned as CEO of the firm.
