The US State Department is urging Americans to refrain from traveling to the UK. The reason is the increase in new cases of Covid-19.
On Monday, a warning issued by the State Department for those wishing to travel to the UK was raised to the highest level. Earlier in the day, a similar step was taken by the United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
A statement from both federal agencies also said that if travel to the UK is an urgent need, then an American citizen should make sure he or she is fully vaccinated against Covid-19. On the same day, Britain called the so-called Freedom Day was celebrated when quarantine restrictions were completely lifted in the country. The British are no longer required to wear a mask and protect social distance from Monday.
Also Monday, the U.S. Department of Health extended the state of emergency declared due to the Covid-19 pandemic in January last year. The new declaration has a deadline of 90 days. The main reason is the growing data on coronavirus infection, hospitalization and mortality compared to previous weeks.
