Kabul: The Afghan government has intensified military action against Taliban militants. More than 90 militants have been killed in airstrikes by Afghan forces over the past two days. The Afghan government is taking action at a time when peace talks between the Taliban have stalled. The talks took place in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
A news agency quoted a senior military official as saying that airstrikes had targeted a Taliban hideout in the Charlak district of Balkh province on Thursday night. Eleven militants along with three local commanders were killed here. There were two airstrikes on Wednesday in the same area. At least 31 militants were killed in one attack and 26 in another. There have also been airstrikes on terrorist bases in two districts in Helmand province. 27 terrorists were killed here. Clashes erupted in Afghanistan during the peace talks. The second round of talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban ended on January 5.
