Islamabad: Pakistan MP Maulana Salahuddin Ayub has been accused of marrying a 14-year-old Balochistan girl. However, the police said that they have started an investigation based on the complaint received. Maulana Salahuddin Ayubi, a member of the Balochistan National Assembly, Jamiat Ulema A Islam leader, was recently married. Representatives of the local women’s welfare department complained to police that the girl he married was only 14 years old and that the girl, born in October 2006, was now attending a government girls’ school in the Jugur area.
In fact girls in Pakistan should not be married until they are 16 years old. If married at a younger age, the parents will face harsher punishments. Police, who have launched an investigation into Salahuddin’s marriage, have questioned the girl’s parents. Police officials said they had given an affidavit that they had never actually married their girl. The news that Salahuddin was married to a girl became a hot topic of discussion.
