President spoke by video call this Sunday, 1st, with his supporters present at the acts in favor of the printed vote in Brasília, Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro
The president Jair Bolsonaro spoke via video call this Sunday, 1st, with his supporters present at the acts in favor of the printed vote in Brasília, Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro. In the call, he once again made the 2022 election conditional on an auditable vote, saying that “without clean and democratic elections, there will be no elections”. In addition, he stated that, as a last warning, he will invite the population of São Paulo to appear on Avenida Paulista so that the “voice of the people can be heard by those who insist on hitting our democracy”. “If the people there say that the vote has to be auditable, that the count has to be public and that the vote has to be printed, it has to be that way, because the parliament is also responsible for the popular will.”
According to him, the majority of the Chamber is in favor of the printed vote – most party leaders, however, have already declared themselves against the measure and the government works with a tendency to reject the text. Bolsonaro again criticized the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Luís Roberto Barroso: “I should be the first to be on the side of the transparency of the elections and is exactly on the other side. Evidence is made with evidence, the more evidence, the more robust the evidence. If the people demand and give me this letter, you can be sure, as well as the majority of the Brazilian parliament, we will have clean elections, with democratic votes and public counting of votes”, he affirmed.
He called himself “proud” of Sunday’s protests and called supporters “our army”. “You are there, in addition to clamoring for the guarantee of our freedom, to seek a way for us to have clean and democratic elections next year. Without clean and democratic elections, there will be no elections. We more than demand together, because you are in fact our army, to make the popular will be expressed in the public counting of votes.” As in the live broadcast last Thursday, 29, the president once again argued that the last elections had “very strong signs of manipulation”. “Whoever says that the audited election is safe is a liar, has no love for democracy and does not respect his people. These people have to recognize their place. I will not engage in cheap provocations, I want a clean way of holding elections, whoever goes against your will is against democracy. We are the majority from Brazil. Let’s not wait for it to happen and then take action. Together, we will do whatever is necessary for public vote counting and democratic elections next year,” he added.
